Hijack Hunters

How to Report Hijacked Accounts

Report through the Report this Item link at the bottom of every auction page.

Select:

Fraudulent Listings (illegal seller demands etc.)

Report a listing you think is fraudulent (you didn't bid)

Continue > e-mail
- only do one report per hijacked account

Fill in the form with a short explanation and click Send.

What not to do

* Don't post User IDs, item numbers, or email addresses on the boards, as that is against eBay policy. Post the auction title instead.

* Don't attempt to contact the hijackers, or try to lead them on. These are not teenage hackers playing around, they are serious criminals.

* Don't attempt to contact bidders on these auctions. Sometimes they are not real members, just other hijacked IDs, used to make the auction look realistic.

* Don't try to auction-wreck with fake IDs. That will only get you into trouble with eBay. It also leaves the hijackers the chance to contact underbidders.

Has your account been hijacked? Here's what to do:

  1. Don't panic! It will all be sorted out quickly
  2. Change your passwords – eBay, email and PayPal
  3. Contact eBay's Live Help for Account Theft – go to Help > A-Z Index > Account Theft > Scroll down to the Live Help icon
  4. You'll be exchanging live text messages with an eBay expert. Be brief and polite, and let them sort it out.
  5. The hijacker will have run up fees on your account – don't worry, the LH staff will remove them
  6. Run every anti-virus and anti-spyware program you have

* Don't attempt to contact the hijackers

* Don't attempt to contact the bidders

* Don't waste time trying to change or remove the hijacker's items

* Don't worry about negative feedback - if you handle this properly you won't get any

* You'll probably get email from disappointed bidders - just answer it politely, some people really don't understand about hijackers
