Our passion is traditional games, played the old fashioned way around a table with family and friends. But not just any game ... our games are designed to make you think and unlock your creative flair. Some will require your concentration, perseverance and originality of thought while others will test your powers of deduction. Others have been included because they are simply just great fun. Challenging mind games and puzzles for Australians



Ian Hammet founded the Games Shop in Royal Arcade Melbourne in 1978. It wasn't long before it became a tourist Mecca, attracting games enthusiasts seeking a unique Australian chess set, game or puzzle. We're pleased to say that 31 years later, the store is still thriving today under Barbara's management. The games may have changed but the focus of the business hasn't. "We love games that make you think". Most of all, we believe in playing games the traditional way - around a table with family and friends - just like our grandparents did". 

Since 1989, Ian Hammet published the Australian Good Games Guide showcasing the latest challenging strategy games on the market each year.  The games are designed to make you think and develop your creativity. Some require great concentration, originality of thought or test your powers of concentration while some have been included because they are simply great fun to play. In 1998, Ian founded the Australian Games Association that today awards the Australian Game and Puzzle of the Year. He has an extensive collection of antique games and is regarded as an expert in this field. For many years Ian has provided mentoring assistance to Australian "would be" games designers.
