I travel to fascinating places, all over western NSW.
To Grawin, the land of the stunning black opal.
Grawin is about one hour west of Lightning Ridge. There is a dry bush golf course and "Club in the Scrub" where you can relax after the long drive.
Along isolated bush roads, to tiny country villages.
The roads are dry and dusty because of the drought. We all hope it rains soon.
To Gulargambone, a tiny town with a huge heart.
In the evenings the sunsets are filled with the raucous sound of huge flocks of cockatoos. Amazing!
When the petrol station closed down in Gulargambone, the community manned it with volunteers to rescue their economy. That's true community spirit!
Over the 90 mile plain, along the road to Weilmoringle.
A father emu and his children ran in front of my car for about a kilometre so I snapped a photo through the windscreen.
The babies were so cute!
Past drovers with their cattle, searching the dry plains for grass
It must be a hard life for the drover. They can be on the road for months at a time, trying to keep their stock alive.
Did you know they have to pay $1000 for insurance, and get permission from Council? That's a lot of money for a drought sticken farmer!
I sometimes stop to admire the vivid colours of a country sunset.
After the colours have faded into dark, the stars are so bright they make me gasp.
I wish city people could see these stars (and I wish I could take a photo to show you how great they look!)
On the weekends I enjoy fishing in the Barwon River.
I haven't had any luck with catching any yellow belly so far.
Sometimes I sell on eBay. See if I am!
Take a look at my blog and My World page. If I haven't updated them, contact me to send a reminder!
