About Me Page

Venetians have a very rich history of creating some of the most treasured glass pieces and techniques in the history of the world. The island of Murano became the center of Venetian glass making in the year 1291 when officials ordered all of the glass makers out of Venice as a precaution so the furnaces would not start catastrophic fires. From the Middle Ages to the 17th. Century, Murano glass was celebrated worldwide because of its superb design and technical innovation, which resulted from collaboration between designers and master glass blowers.

By the 16th Century, Venetian artisans had gained even greater control over the color and transparency of their glass, and had mastered a variety of decorative techniques.

Murano glass makers were so well regarded because they developed or refined technologies such as crystalline glass, enameled glass (smalto), glass with threads of gold (aventurine), multicolored glass (millefiore), opaline glass (lead powder blown in), and milk glass (lattimo). For many years they were the world's only craftsmen who could create mirrors.

The glass industry in Venice fell into decline in the early 19th. Century because the city was occupied by Austria. It was not until the 20th. Century that Murano resumed world leadership in glass design.

Despite efforts to keep Venetian glassmaking techniques within Venice, they became known elsewhere, and Venetian-style glassware was produced in other Italian cities and other countries of Europe.

Today, Murano is home to the Museo Vetrario or Glass Museum in the Palazzo Giustinian, which holds displays on the history of glassmaking as well as glass samples ranging from Egyptian times through the present day.

Shipping

Shipping details for eact item are inluded in the item listings.
International - Varies. Please email me your delivery address to calculate the shipping cost.
Domestic delivery is 2 - 7 work days. International delivery is 7 - 14 work days. If you don't receive the item after these time frames, please email me as soon as possible.
Postage insurance is strongly recommended for large glass items and is available on request with the bidder incurring the extra cost . Email me if you need postage insurance.
Pick-ups not available .
We package your Murano glass item with care, and always use a padded bag or cardboard box to ensure that your item arrives to you as safely and as cost effective as possible.
All items are shipped by Air Mail through Australia Post within two work days following payment confirmation. Should you have your own shipping preferences, ie express post, etc, please send me an email to obtain the total shipping costs.

Combined Postage Discounts and Free Delivery

Multiple items can be combined into one package and the buyer is charged the postage price for the item with the highest postage cost. A 50% postage deduction is then applied for each additional item purchased from me.

Time period for combined purchases is 14 days.

Each item must be checked out individually

Free domestic delivery applies if you spend AU$200.00 on two or more items within 14 days.

Returns

Refund for the bidding amount is offered only if the item is returned within 30 days in exactly the same condition and in the original packing it was shipped out to the buyer in.
Buyer is responsible for all shipping and handling costs and are Non-Refundable.

FAQ

Q. What should I do after I win the auction?

A. After you win the auction, you will need to complete the checkout process on eBay and ensure that your current delivery address is correct. You will receive a winning confirmation email from us via eBay within one work day showing the total amount you will need to pay.

Q. I wish to use Paypal to make payment. How do I open an account?

A. Just click the Paypal logo displayed under the Payment heading above on this page and then follow instructions but please make sure you read and understand the information on Paypal and only open an account if you are happy.

Q. How long after the auction is completed do you ship the item out?

A. The item is shipped out within 48 hours after payment confirmation from either Paypal or the bank. You will receive a "Payment Received" email from us via eBay when this occurs. Please note that Paypal payment is almost instantaneous but bank deposits or internet bank transfers take about 1-3 days to clear.

Q. What happens when the item is shipped to me?

Q. Can I pick-up my item?

A. Sorry, due to bad experiences in the past regarding pick-ups, I have decided against all pick-ups for obvious reasons.

Q. After checking the item when it arrives and I don't like it, can I send it back and get a refund?

A. You can return the item and get a full refund only for the final bidding amount but the item must be returned within 30 work days in its original condition and its original packaging it was shipped out in. You are responsible for all shipping costs.

Q. What is postage insurance?

A. Most of the items I sell are made of glass material, therefore it is strongly recommended to take out postage insurance especially for large glass items. When the item is damaged or lost during transit to your delivery address, the insurance will compensate you for your loss.
