STOP THE PRESSES:

I'm back! I have been away from eBay for 4 years! Just browsing once or twice every couple of years! If anyone still vists my lovely yet horribly outdated site with 997 hits and counting please email me at: scarabbeetles@yahoo.com. We can chat about gaming, anything, especially the old dudes I met over 3 year on eBay OZ! The eBay email on file is from my Uni days and I havent been able to successfully change it over to Yahoo, so this is the only way to contact me.

What have I been doing? Well, not updating the site for one! I had the crazy idea just now of writing this update since I had a spare 20mins from my lunch break left. I have been WORKING hard for the last 4.5 years. Back to reality for me. All the fellow young professionals like me (also called yup-pies, I hate that word), you know how it is, start a job then want to do well and before you know it its time for the next world cup and wheres the time gone! By the way... go socceroos, for last year. I saw the game here vs Uruguay. Kikass!

By way of gaming this site is crazily outdated. Look below: everything on the list is still around. Go me! I havent sold anything. Instead I have added these things over the last 4 years, with my work budget allowing for a bit more "value" gaming spending than the time I was at uni on "Centrestink" (i cant let a good cheap game go to waste, what an addiction!):

2004 - PS2 and around 20 of the most notable games, all new, they were real cheap

2004 - Some more Gamecube games, 15, all the classics I now own, got them when the gamecube went outa business

2006 - Xbox with 30 games, went crazy end of last year, thank you JB and EB, prices for eveything xbox were slashed, great games cheap

2007 - GameBoy Original and some games

2007 - Original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and some games

2007 - Sega Saturn and some games

2003-2007 - PC gaming, very small collection 10 games (sim and rts), all the Age of Empires, some Microsoft Flight Simulator versions, Warcraft, Supreme Commander. For the last 4 years I had a standard desktop, had to play with minimal gfx settings but I just splurged on made-to-measure a Core 2 Duo package thanks to a good pc maker vendor here in Sydney. NOw everything looks great. Computer gaming nly interests me for RTS and SIM genres.

Back to work! Here from you soon!

EBay and Me

Hi! Since I joined in 2000 I've learnt a lot about logistics, cost control, the mail order video game cartel, received hurtful hate mail, made my postal worker William a very happy man and met tonnes of cool people who love what I love. It's really been an experience. Before I begin to grab for the tissues I'll get a bit more upbeat. Why eBay? Why indeed. It started out as a way to earn extra cash. Now my focus is more on playing tonnes of games. With eBay I can buy as many games as I want and if I don't like them, I know I can get a reasonable price for them. Also if I'm in a financial rut this is a place where I can turn my games into cash.

I have been an eBay member since October 2000. I was very active from March 2001 to March 2002 selling and buying lots of games. Then in July 2002, when I did a huge clear out of all the games I did't play anymore. Another clear out occurred in December 2002. Right now, in 2003, my eBay activities are restricted to just browsing... and the occassional buy. No more selling for now.

Obsessive Compulsive Pastime

Now to my love of video games. It all started... when I was 6. Ah, the Bicentennial year. Kids in Sydney knew where to play their favourite games for free. That's right! Grace Bros city store. Play as long as you like with no obligation to buy. That was the life. Marvelling at the Mega Drive, SNES, Game Boy, Game Gear, Master System. Much of my and my brother's childhood was spent there, and at Emtronics Leichhardt Marketplace, playing while our parents shopped and that's where I got the bug. You'd get the look - you know which one. Shop assistant walks behind you slowly, that look that says 'Hello! We're not a freaking arcade'. You can even see me at Grace Bros today, on the 6th floor, only this time I'm looking at the 128bit consoles.

Luckily, in 1992 my cousin shipped us a Master System with 12 games. We could never get hold of a Mega Drive or any other system because we could never, ever afford it. From 92 onwards I was loving games like Sonic 1, 2, Outrun, Wonderboy 1, 2, Alex Kidd in MW, Castle of Illusion etc. In the holidays we would wait until our parents left and play SMS from 9 til 5 non-stop. In 1994 we visited that same overseas cousin who now had (surprise, surprise) a SNES, SMD and MegaCD. He introduced us to the a*mazing graphics of DKC1 and 2 and the always cool Street Fighter. Bro and I played from 10 til 3 in the morning! Sure we were supposed to be spending time with our relatives, but this was mid 90s gaming. How could we resist!

Imagine a river of 6 years and your whole adolescence flashing by. Unrequited love come and gone, dramatic times, growing pains, many friendships, so much learnt, so much yet to learn about life. That was my journey from 1994 to 2000, from year 7 pip-squeak to year 12 HSC graduate. Hey, back to the story! In January 2000, eight years after we first got the SMS (our one and only console) I saw an ad on TV from The Gamesmen: 'SNES $20, SMD $20, Games $15'. Since I had acquired my first (and worst) job just a few days ago at the local McD, I rocked on down and bought a SNES and SMD. At last my dream was realised. Those SMS, SMD and SNES games still have that special something. A bit of the wow factor has been lost since then and my future seems to be more about quality gaming... but I still cradle my old favourites. I have gone through some 400 titles around the place and have loved it.

In the spirit of buying quality systems when they've become unpopular (and cheap!) in January 2002 I bought a PSX. It has all the Square RPGs. In May, bro and I got ourselves the finest Sega system ever, the Dreamcast. SEE-GAA! Every time we switch it on it amazes us! In July we began the mystical journey into Nintendo 64. Basically because of the dozen or so must-haves that Nintendo released. And in September we completed our early 90s fantasy by getting a Sega Game Gear. Sorry Nintendo fans, but the Game Gear kicks the Game Boy's butt! Hook up an SMS to SGG converter and your SMS games are reborn. They look so cool. On a TV they look blocky, but in handheld they are perfect.

In April 2003, after vowing to save money and halt my gaming spending I saw a deal too good to refuse and bought a GameCube. In the next few years I plan to buy all the Nintendo titles, just like what I did with the N64. The differnece here being that I will more than likely buy the 'must-have' titles brand new, with the other ones bought whenever I see them on special. I'm no longer up to the prolonged legwork that's involved in serious second-hand gaming.

What about the future? My bro wants a PS2, so we'll get that too someday. The Xbox is currently out of the picture. Although Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball does seem alluring...

Now to the fame game...

My name is 12345 16789 and I live in Sydney, Australia. I was born in 1982, which makes me a pretty young eBay magnate compared to most of you. I studied full-time at the University of Sydney from 2000 to 2002. I'm a smart cookie so don't mess with me. Hehehe. Right now I'm a Commerce graduate in the Accounting workforce. I'm not selling on eBay, so you won't see me much there anymore. But you can find me on the Gamenation forums under the ID lucasito.

In 2002, most of my time was split up between (1) Uni classes and study (2) Searching every place in Sydney for video games (3) Sleep. Now, in 2003, it's (1) Work (2) Net searching (3) Sleep. On the weekends I still listen to music, go bowling, play basketball, see friends and play video games. Yes, video games. I don't keep them just for show, you know.

I have so many interests and sub-interests its just not funny. I like the SNS, SDC, SMD, SMS, PSX and N64. I don't like the NES (Sega beat Nintendo in the 8bit war for me!) but I know I will have to buy one eventually. As far as music goes, I listen to anything 60s - especially The Beatles (I currently have 3 of their CD releases - Sergeant Pepper and the 2 double CDs spanning 1960-70 - but I'm gonna get them all one day) - as well as some 70s and 80s, early 90s pop, mid 90s rock grunge. I Love my sport! Go the Wests Tigers, Sydney Swans, Socceroos, Leeds, Sydney Kings, World Cup Soccer, UEFA! The fact that I am human and male leads me to mention the following complete babes at this point: Drew Barrymore, Wynona Ryder and Liv Tyler.

Since I was a kid, I've been watching a crazy amount of TV! I still like A River Somewhere, Dancing in the Street, Frontline, Degrassi (Anyone with tapes please email me. I have the Degrassi movie on tape, but I want all the episodes too), Press Gang, Ready or Not, Private Life of Plants, Human Body. Modern stuff? Well, ABC TV, SBS Soccer, Seinfeld (Currently taping every episode. Unfortunately, I missed the holy grail of Seinfeld which was a marathon on Fox where every episode was shown back to back. Damnation), The Panel, The Simpsons (I have over 200 episodes on tape! Only the good ones too, so I don't have much more to go), Letterman. I am very nostalgic, by nature, so I still love the old shows Scooby Doo, Art Attack, Captain Planet, Smurfs, Lion King, Eek the Cat, Rugrats, TMNT, Ghostbusters, Transformers etc. You get my drift. Anything kiddy from the early 90s is my cuppa tea.

Where do you hang out?

As you might have guessed, I spend a lot of my time in unproductive pursuits. Like searching the net. There are some cool sites out there for those that look hard. I can't remember most of them, so I'll be updating this whenever I find a cool site. Websites that are memorable are:

Gamenation Forums - Great place to chat with the head honchos of gaming. I'm there as lucasito, in my favs, the Retro and Sega forums.
Aussie Dreamcaster - This friendly guy has created a very fine website about Dreamcast and a bit of other Sega stuff.
The Blue Hedgehog - Currently not working... Was once a massive Dreamcast site. Pics, reviews... eulogies. Hope it comes back.
Planet Dreamcast - This ones works alright... Very complete with so many reviews and screenshots. Impressive.
SNES Zone - My favourite SNES site.
GameFaqs - All of life's gaming questions answered.
RPGamer - A very complete RPG library with news, reviews and game pics.
Phantasy Star - SEGA have made tonnes of sequels to the original SMS Phantasy Star. Learn about the dynasty.
VG Museum - Game screenshots for older games can be hard to find. Luckily there's plenty on show here.

Retrogames - These guys have shops around the place. A bit expensive... but if you want it bad.
The Gamesmen - Fine providores of gaming fun. It is retail, but what the heck.
Nintendo Australia - Updated and accurate website of current Nintendo stuff.
Square Europe - What's new for us fine Aussie gamers.
Squaresoft - What can we illegally import, or maybe expect to see in like... 2 years!
SEGA of America - See what great SEGA games are going to be released, admittedly on non-SEGA systems.

EBAY Australia - The finest site around - bringing traders together.
EBAY America - Many worldwide items don't appear on www.ebay.com.au. Search here and you'll find tonnes of otherwise unavailable stuff.
EBAY United Kingdom - Same as above, but the advantage is this stuff is PAL. No compatibility issues! Yippee!

SBS The Worldgame - I like the nightlife, I like my football.
FIFA - The starting point for all soccer knowledge. This website can take you to anything you want to know about any competition anywhere.
UEFA - Great for all your Champions League action... when it's on, that is.

The Simpsons - Go here to see episode lists, pictures, a few bios, fan stuff, 'Butterfinger' promotional info
Degrassi - This is the place for all your Degrassi High and Junior High reminiscing. Ahhhh.

A Work in Progress

Here is my gaming history including my refined collection. 95% of this was collected while I was a full-time student. The absence of employment meant I had to sell more than half of what I bought. All the rest of these games should stay with me forever. All (except a few PSX and some SDC titles) are second hand. The big gripe I have with my games is that I have too many! Example, a console may have to wait a few months before it is played again. And I only have 1-2hrs a night to play. I think the collection for my current consoles is fairly complete... so more games will probably only arise from the purchase of a new console. This may take a while. Game ownership is currently at around 200 titles out of a possible 400.

MY COOLEST GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Phantasy Star. Comes as cartridge, instruction booklet, Sega promotional poster and box. Everything is in mint condition. The box is unmarked, the cart shows next to no cartridge input wear, the booklet and poster are mint. I purchased this from a second hand store. The greatest thing about this is the paperwork. It's crisp! Yes, CRISP! No wear to the edges and unmarked. I think I was the first one to open them up! Very sacred. My guess is that the owner played it for a few hours in 1988 and stashed it away soon after, leaving it to be opened in the year 2002. Seeing as its more than a decade since this was made, I consider it one of my best finds. The actual game is very enjoyable and enthralled me for over 50 hours, being 4 hours a days on and off for months. Cost? $10. That's what you call lucky!

MY FAVOURITE GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Castle of Illusion. From the revolutionary moving title screen to the colourful interactive stages, this game hit by little 10 year old brain with a bang. It is still my favourite SMS game of all time. I think it holds the mantle alongside Outrun because of the fun factor involved in playing it. I'm sure many people would at least put it in their top ten SMS games.

Phantasy Star 3, Phantasy Star 4, Toe Jam and Earl 2.

MY COOLEST GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Phantasy Star 2. Comes as cartridge, instruction booklet and box. Does not include hint book. Everything is in very good condition. The box is unmarked, the cart shows a few signs of cartridge input wear and the booklet shows light wear on the edges. I purchased this on eBay. And without a picture to guide me, I was very impressed with what I got! Although I haven't really gotten into it, It know it's going to be great. Cost? $35. Very fair price, in my opinion.

MY FAVOURITE GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Sonic 2. The mega drive must have been used at full capacity to display such large, moving stages. Being a Sega person first and foremost, I have an affinity with this little guy Sonic. And I believe he was best presented in 2D in this game. In judging my favourite game for SMD, I also took into account games that I play the most. Sonic 2 never gets a rest! Its always either the first or second game we play. To complete all of its stages takes some effort and we usually use up all our continues by third or fourth stage. Luckily, using the vast array of cheats on offer makes things easier. When I was a kid, a SMD was the system to get. Even the blocky graphics of Altered Beast or Hang On seemed amazing! Unlike those games, Sonic 2 still keeps well after all these years.

MY COOLEST GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Chrono Trigger. Comes as cartridge, instruction booklet, cardboard cart holder and box. Does not include poster maps. Everything is in very good condition. The box is square with only a tiny rip in the top right, the cart shows next to no cartridge input wear, the booklet shows only general light wear around the edges. I purchased this on eBay. I could talk for hours about Chrono Trigger, but I think I'll be short and just make a few points. Chrono truly is one of the best games in history! It lives up to all of hype! Only once have I truly felt sad at the end of a game, and that was when I finished Chrono Trigger. I won't spoil the (main) ending, but it is so sweet. From the plot, to the music, to the characters, to the anime, to the battle system, to the EVERYTHING! It occupies the number one position on my gaming shelf. Cost? $100. Sounds like a lot, but I don't see the price of it going down very soon, do you?

MY FAVOURITE GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Donkey Kong Country 2. Please! No insults! I have plenty of great games but DKC2 has always held a place in my gaming heart. And I know many people claim this is just a cheap knockoff of DKC with a few frills added to please the masses, but I genuinely enjoy DKC2. Much more than DKC1 and DKC3. For one, the backgrounds are significantly better than the other two games. From the pirate ship, to the ships masts, honey pot stages and of course the showground roller coasters, everything is absolutely stunning and flawless. Plug the stereo cable into the back, put some headphones on and whammo! The music comes alive and is much more vibrant. Its really an experience. And its the little differences. Example? Well, if you hang off the walls in the bee-hive stages, you notice Diddy or Dixie take out a hand, grab some honey, lick some and smile at you! How cute! In pointing out the amazingness of DKC2, I guess I'll have to say what's not that good about DKC and DKC3. DKC has too little variety in stages and its nearly impossible to get 100% without cheating. I've played it for ages... and only have 85%! DKC3 has its obvious faults. The new types of stages aren't really entertaining. I don't like Kiddy Kong. The upgraded graphics and gameplay is all right, but it's more of the same. Not too heavy, not to light, DKC2 is just right.

A Playstation that is chipped to play USA games (not copied games), Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics.

MY COOLEST GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Final Fantasy 9. Comes as original 4 CDs, instruction booklet, and case. Everything is in very good condition. The case is unmarked, the CDs show minimal wear, the booklet is mint. I purchased this on eBay. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten into many of my Playstation RPGs yet. I believe this will be one of my great games when I finally get down to business. Cost? $60. A bit expensive for a game that isn't rare.

MY FAVOURITE GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Front Mission 3. At this early stage in my PSX gaming history, it is the only game that's had me hooked for hours! This game is just so unusual to me. You go around investigating an explosion and end up on a search around the world... even Australia! Yes, our country is the stage of at least one battle. I am only 15 hours into it so I can't claim to be the ultimate authority on it. What makes it my favourite PSX game? The battles. You take up as a group of a few walking robot war machines and battle, in 3D environments, against all manner of weaponry and robots like you. And the 3D environments are not just there for show. They really do affect your strategy much more than the opponents. The game is 100% turn-based, which is great for me since I need a lot of thinking time. It really is an RPG with a twist! Instead of battles, you have 3D turn based mech-combat. Instead of armour and swords, you have mechanical upgrades and high powered ammunition. And there's a weight limit which stops you buying, say, five bazookas for each limb. It is fairly difficult too.

MY COOLEST GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Shenmue 2. Comes as original 4 CDs, 2 instruction booklets, 2 cases and cardboard box. Everything is in perfect condition. The cases and box are unmarked, the CDs shows no wear and the booklets perfect. I purchased this from Electronics Boutique. As you can guess, I bought it new and sealed. Nearly had a heart attack when I saw it, too. It is the most valuable game in my SDC arsenal. The plot? Ryo continues the search for his father's killer. It is fast becoming a family favourite. Amazing graphics and multi-genre gameplay. And while I play, bro helps me out, all the while learning Japanese. Yes, the speech is all Japanese (with English subtitles) which I think was a the right choice. I find that the American voices in the first Shenmue sound extremely corny. Price? $100. It's worth it.

MY FAVOURITE GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Sonic Adventure 2. I've only passed the first few stages, but I know this may be the greatest Sonic game ever. With a total of 6 available plot lines and characters endings, this release makes a great game (Sonic Adventure, another favourite) even better! The stages are huge! The gameplay fast and funky! The sound? Blast me silly! It's great! Annoyed with the constant noisiness of your SDC? Well, hook it up to your stereo and knock yourself (and your neighbours) out.

The Paper Mario strategy guide.

MY COOLEST GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Paper Mario. Comes as cartridge, instruction booklet, Nintendo promotional poster, cardboard cart holder, cartridge bag and box. Everything is in perfect, brand new condition. I bought this on eBay. This game is the only turn based RPG I have on this console... but its the best on the N64! Mario fans, of which I am one, finally get to see a PAL Aussie version of a Mario RPG (The game is extremely similar in gameplay to that past Square/Nintendo collaboration). The graphics are a pure colourful delight, the cute inclusion of Nintendo friends Goombario and others are clever and the excellent, friendly, exciting play mechanics are a plus plus plus. I better catch my breath... Paper Mario is the must have on N64. Also, mine is 100% complete, the original non-black borders release and brand new which makes it tonnes better, from a collector like me's, point of view. Price? $100. Quite steep, I know, but a great collectors item.

MY FAVOURITE GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Mario Kart 64. I have not owned my N64 for long, nor do I know as much about it as, say, most of my other systems. So any criticism of this choice has validity. Anyways, in my opinion MK64 is just the funnest game out on N64. It just oozes of classic too. Great too, is the fact that difficult actually means difficult! The higher you go the near impossible the game becomes. Very challenging. Plus any gamer would enjoy the audio cuts of all the characters and the quasi-3D character models.

Castle of Illusion.

MY COOLEST GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Lion King. Comes as cartridge, booklet, paper eggshell and box. Cart is in very good condition. Booklet is in very good condition. Box is in very good condition, uncrushed and unmarked. I bought this on eBay the game is alright, but what really tickles my fancy about this is the packaging. The game gear box is near mint and takes me back to the early 90s. It occupies a very prominent position on my shelf. Cost? $20. Not a bad price.

MY FAVOURITE GAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS -

Shinobi 2. I have very little experience with regards to the Game Gear but this game shines out. I have never played it on the Master System so I don't have anything to refer back too. Anyways, this game has classic Shinobi gameplay, password save (at last!) and funky handheld graphics. It's has stolen much of my Game Gear time away from other games. You first have to rescue ninjas from each stage. With every ninja that you rescue, you gain them and their new skills, which make previously unreachable parts of the stage now possible to enter. Now you can find the hard-to-find crystals that open up the final stage. It certainly isn't an easy game, which is why they made it with password save.

BELOW ARE SOME THINGS I USED TO OWN BUT NO LONGER HAVE -

I'd like to thank the academy

There are a few people I'd like to thank. My best friend BM deserves the most thanks. I don't have a PC, so ever since I started eBay he's let me use his PC and scanner for all my eBay dealings. So many Saturday afternoons... I thank you SO much BM for putting up with me. Next comes 'Bro'. He's co-funded most of our SDC games and is the reason I love so many 2 player games. I thrash him on Bomberman, he kicks my butt in FIFA. Unfortunately he hates RPGs!

Thanks go to the Economics Faculty computer labs. They've allowed me email people, surf the net and check eBay whenever I want. Also, most of my past eBays have been listed and organised here. The pawn shops (or 'bomb shelters' as bro has dubbed them) and old video stores of Sydney deserve a mention.

Members on eBay will not be forgotten either. Many thanks go to Perth's gsg95 for having answers to the most obscure gaming questions. Her interminable collection can fill me with so many emotions: jealousy, anger, amazement and admiration! Talk about the whole spectrum! Hehehe. I don't know how you do it. Also to sales@benmemphis.com who's been really helpful. Sydney is a lonely place for ebayers... luckily I've met 3 nice eBay Sydneysiders: opel24v, cybagirl and xxxrosemadderxxx. When I say met, I really do mean met. I often email opel24v for his latest SDC games and to see how he's going. I go to his place to pick up the games personally and chat for a while about anything in particular. Cybagirl is a very friendly person with an amazing collection of everything Nintendo. From NES to SNES, from GB to GBA and all the way up to NGC. She believes in only purchasing complete games, which makes her collection even more special. She let me test my old SMRPG cart on her mod SNES, which unfortunately didn't work. And she's hosting my logo image which is great! Thanks! Tonnes of thanks go to Sydney's xxxrosemadderxxx who has been so friendly. We've spoken on a few a occasions. And you! Thanks goes out to all the members who have said hello and have either happily bought from or sold games to me!
